Though anyone who grew up on classic movies will blush at the idea that they could be thought of as boring, younger generations haven’t been as exposed to the black-and-white era.
Countless classics were made before color became the default, from Citizen Kane and Casablanca to Seven Samurai and It’s a Wonderful Life, with some filmmakers choosing to film in black and white for artistic reasons even today. But most people prefer what they grew up on and have a hard time appreciating what came before, meaning that not everyone keeps Turner Classic Movies on in the background all day long. It’s never too late to catch up with the oldies-but-goodies, but not everyone will choose to do so.
