When you look at the night sky, do you see potential alien worlds or just stars shining bright from light years away — some of which have long since faded?
There are few questions with vaster implications. Statistically, it certainly seems unlikely that we’re alone. Depending on who you ask, there are as many as two trillion galaxies and at least 100 billion planets just in our galaxy. The odds of none of them having intelligent life seem astronomically low, and yet we’ve never seen definitive proof that they’re out there. In the meantime, we may have to keep echoing The X-Files‘ motto: “I want to believe.”
