Though you’ve surely used both names at one time or another, one of them has to roll off your tongue more easily than the other. Which is it?

4th of July sounds a bit more conversational, whereas Independence Day evokes the Founding Fathers *and* a certain 1996 blockbuster in which we celebrate that most patriotic of holidays by saving Earth from invading aliens. Other holidays don’t really have this issue — Thanksgiving is just Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day is just Valentine’s Day — which just underscores how special the 4th day of July really is.
