When you get married, you also become part of a new family — not that everyone is comfortable addressing their in-laws in such familiar terms.
There are other options besides calling your spouse’s parents mom and dad, of course, and some of you surely go with your mother- and father-in-law’s first names (spare a thought to anyone who still has to call them Mr. and Mrs.). It all depends on your comfort level, doesn’t it? Some might find the practice odd — especially your own parents — while lots of you may rightfully consider yourselves lucky to be so close to your in-laws.
