The zodiacal approach is more straightforward, as there are only a dozen gemstones involved: bloodstone (Aries), sapphire (Taurus), agate (Gemini), emerald (Cancer), onyx (Leo), carnelian (Virgo), chrysolite (Libra), beryl (Scorpio), topaz (Sagittarius), ruby (Capricorn), garnet (Aquarius), and amethyst (Pisces). Going by the calendar creates some confusion, however, as nearly half of the months have more than one stone and June has three (pearl, moonstone, and alexandrite). At least they’re all pretty.
