Tipping has always been a delicate matter, doubly so when it comes to to-go orders — which are more common than ever now.

It’s hard not to feel pressured when you see that tip jar on the counter as you pick up your Pad thai, but some resist nevertheless. And while some hold to the idea that “if you can’t afford to tip, you can’t afford to eat out,” others think it’s all getting to be a little much. Even so, the last few years have made it clear just how difficult — and vital — service workers are, so what’s the harm in throwing them a few extra bucks?
