Just because you have the right of way doesn’t mean you can’t put a little pep in your step.

You aren’t obligated to, of course — as a pedestrian using the walkway, you’re well within your rights to take your sweet time. But some folks can’t help being polite, rushing themselves even when they don’t actually have to. It’s always nice to return a gesture of goodwill with one of your own, though; that’s kind of what makes society function well, after all.
