It washes the dishes, but who — or what — washes it?
If it’s never even occurred to you to do this, you’ll surely be surprised to learn that it’s recommended to do so every month. Most experts suggest using a cup full of white vinegar and running a full cycle with hot water, then deodorizing with baking soda and a half-cycle before airing the machine out for a few hours. If that sounds like more work than you’re willing to do on a regular basis, well, that’s probably why not everyone does it — which isn’t to say they shouldn’t start.
