Whether it’s a pack of gum or a candy bar, plenty of us have taken advantage of the five-finger discount at one point or another — not that we’ll all admit it.
Often this happens in our younger years, either because our weekly allowance had run out or because the wrongness of the action hadn’t fully sunken in yet. Maybe it was the corner store down the block from your childhood home and you’ve always wished you could bring the item in question back. You wouldn’t be the first person racked with guilt over having some sticky fingers. It isn’t right, strictly speaking, but in certain circumstances, it’s at least understandable. After all, who hasn’t done something they’re ashamed of and chalked it up to youth? It’s also, one hopes, the kind of thing that happens once and is never repeated.
