The ultimate question when it comes to confectionary pronunciation: one syllable or two?
The former rolls off the tongue more naturally for most of us, an especially important consideration when it comes to candy, while the latter seems more proper — even if you don’t pronounce it that way, there’s a chance you wish you did. Maybe it depends on the setting in which said caramel is being consumed: CAR-mull if it’s a candy bar bought from the grocery store, KER-uh-mell if you’re at a fancy dinner party drinking tea with your pinky up. At least it tastes amazing either way.
