“Ladies first” has been applied to many aspects of society, but has it outgrown its usefulness when it comes to restaurants?
There’s nothing wrong with a little chivalry, but some would argue that true equality means doing away with gestures like this — even if it’s meant to treat women politely, it’s still treating them differently. Some women may even feel like the center of attention when it’s happening, which could make them uncomfortable in and of itself. Maybe it’s time to do away with this tradition?
